Labradorite gemstone is a member of the Feldspar family and considered as a treasure for its remarkable play of color which is known as labradorescence. This gemstone is usually dark black, gray-green, Gray or greyish-white, is made up of aggregate layers that refract light as iridescent flashes of coppery red, pale green, GOLD or peacock blue. The predominant blue varies within the light, displaying hues from various shades of pale to deepest blue, almost blue-green. It was first discovered in Labrador city of Canada, by gemologist Moravian missionaries in the year of 1770 who named it for the area. It became a famous gem in the whole Europe in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. Rarer varieties of Labradorite gemstone include a transparent GOLD, Golden Labradorite or champagne-color, and one other Spectrolite which is an intense variety of Labradorite gem displaying the entire color spectrum, discovered in Finland in the year of 1940’s.
